Bystander Intervention Training

Have you ever…

  • Laughed at a joke that felt inappropriate or cruel?
  • Worried about a friend but not known what to do?
  • Wanted to challenge something but just weren’t sure how?

The All About Respect Bystander Training course aims to empower young people to become an active bystander and help prevent sexual harassment, sexual harm, and hate crime. This training will equip you with the skills and awareness needed to notice warning signs, and techniques that allow you to intervene while staying safe.

The training covers four key areas, including:

  1. What Do We Mean By ‘Bystander‘?
  2. What Is Gender-Based Violence, including sexual harassment, sexual assault and partner violence?
  3. What Is Hate Crime?
  4. How Do We Intervene?

The  sessions give a thorough and important overview of the key issues surrounding bystander intervention, sexual violence and hate crime, giving vital background information and cultural context. These sessions build a strong foundation for possible intervention and assist you in spotting red flags and potentially harmful situations. The final part of the training gives practical advice on the multiple ways in which intervention can take place safely. This session also gives helpful information on how to support victims, and how to communicate with perpetrators.  Overall, the training typically takes two-hours.

Bystander Training equips you with important knowledge surrounding sexual harm and hate crime, tips on how to navigate a variety of potentially difficult conversations, and empowers you to become an active bystander.
